Do you know about the importance of sea urchins? It's mostly about their feeding habits! 🍽️ ✷ They feed on algae, keeping corals clean and healthy.
✷ By feeding, they make room for baby corals to settle and grow.
✷ Without urchins, algae overgrows, corals die, and fish and other reef life lose their homes. Even though these animals are often overlooked, it’s extremely important to protect them. Coral reefs and many other species rely on their survival. So what are the main threats to sea urchins?
Like many other marine animals, it’s mostly: overharvesting, pollution, climate change & warming seas, and diseases. Next time you see one of these urchins out in the sea, you’ll know how important their presence is!
